BIOGRAPHY
Was born and raised in Jakarta, Indonesia on December 5, 1972.
After graduated in 1998 from Fine Arts Department at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts in Yogyakarta, majoring in Visual Communication Design then moved to Germany in the beginning of 1999.
Worked as graphic designer in Passau, Germany after decided not to continue Art History Master degree studies at Passau University in Germany for several semesters. In 2000 moved to live and worked as graphic designer, illustrator and as an artist in Berlin, Germany.
Started to think about learning tattoo when lived in Berlin but because of financial reason I had no chance to leave my job and everything to concentrate totally learning tattoo until at the end of December 2004 I had to go back to Indonesia.
The wish to learn to become a tattoo artist came true 4 years after the idea was started in Germany when lived in Los Angeles, California in 2006-2008.
Worked as a graphic designer and illustrator in the beginning of residency in Los Angeles but started to look for a tattoo apprenticeship and completed all tattoo equipments with its supplies, putting a lot of time and attention in learning tattoo autodidact, keep searching for various references, books and other inspirations.
In 2007 had a chance for a tattoo apprenticeship under Sua Sulu’ape Freewind at Black Wave Tattoo in Los Angeles, and worked as well in a team doing Tatau or traditional hand tapping tattoo in Polynesian technique and Borneo technique.
7 months full intensive trained and apprenticeship and at the same time did tattooing and keep improving tattoo skills, enhancing knowledge through self-study. Seymour Kahiliaulani Kaniho-Lindsey, another tattoo artist at Black Wave Tattoo from Hawaii shared many of his tips and techniques of tattooing.
In the beginning of 2008 was not able to renew permanent residency in the US, stopped working at Black Wave Tattoo then decided to return to Indonesia.
Currently, I live and work as a tattooist in Jakarta, Indonesia focusing on customized tattoo designs.
